BOARD COMMITTEES
Act 93 Meet and Discuss
This committee is responsible for meeting with Act 93 administrators to discuss reasonable salary and benefit provisions for subsequent recommendation to the full board. During non “meet and discuss” years, this committee may meet once or twice a year at most. The current Act 93 agreement is in effect through June 30, 2011. Primary contact: Amy Morton
Finance and Budget
This committee meets mid-winter with the Superintendents’ Finance Committee to review the administration’s recommended general operating budget for subsequent presentation to the full board. The committee may meet on other occasions to discuss pertinent fiscal issues. Primary contact: Shawn Farr
Executive Director Evaluation
This committee coordinates with the board secretary the annual evaluation of the executive director which includes one meeting with the executive director following a review of the summary data compiled by the board secretary. The summary data is then presented to the full board for discussion and approval. Primary contact: Amy Morton
Negotiations
This committee is active during negotiations, which will be undertaken in 2009-2010. Several meetings and phone conferences are required. The committee is supported primarily by the Directors of HR and Business. Primary contact: Amy Morton
Transportation
This committee meets infrequently since the CAIU no longer owns buses or employs bus drivers. Transportation services are outsourced to multiple small contractors who specialize in transportation of students with special needs. Primary contact: Shawn Farr
Building & Grounds
This committee meets infrequently. Meetings will be called when board review of administrative recommendations are needed, such as for major capital projects such as a new roof or substantial building project. Primary contact: Shawn Farr
Safety Committee
This committee will meet as needed to consider safety concerns and plans for the CAIU. Primary contact: Cindy Mortzfeldt
Champions for Children
Members of this “committee” actually serve on the Champions for Children Board, an independent board for our 501(c)(3) educational foundation. The Champions for Children Board meets three to four times per year over lunch and is chaired by a local businessman. Primary contact: Amy Morton
Nominating Committee
The nominating committee members are responsible for bringing forth a ballot annually in July for board president, vice president, treasurer and secretary.
PSBA Representative
The PSBA representative is a voting member of the delegation meeting each year at the Leadership Conference held in Hershey.
NOTES:
The board president serves as an ad hoc member of each committee. Committee meetings are held at the convenience of the committee chair and co-chair. CAIU administration may confer with the committee co-chairs to determine the need for a full committee meeting or to review time-sensitive issues. Committee chairs should contact the board secretary to schedule committee meetings. CAIU “primary contacts” should be included in all committee meetings to provide background information, data and general support. Committees are authorized only to make recommendations to the full board when dealing with matters which require a vote of the full board.
